What if my child is unwell?

Any child who is unwell (E.g. rashes, diarrhea etc.) should not be brought to nursery, which reserves the right to refuse to accept the child until the nursery is satisfied that they are not infectious, to protect other children from cross infection. The nursery’s exclusion policy is guided by the Communicable Disease Control Unit, Cheshire and Warrington Health Care NHS Trust. Antibiotic medicines will only be administered by nursery staff after the child has been taking them for more than 24 hours at home and only then on written authorisation from the parents.
If a child is taken ill or is injured, First Aid will be administered and the parent will be advised. All accidents are recorded in the Accident Book and he parents are asked to sign the entry. If the child requires emergency treatment, the nursery reserves the right to take him / her to hospital, informing the parents as soon as
possible.
Parents must notify staff of any allergies or relevant medical information.
LIST OF COMMON ILLNESSES REQUIRING EXCLUSION FROM NURSERY
ILLNESS MINIMUM EXCLUSION PERIOD
CHICKEN POX 5 days from outset of the rash
COMMON COLD until acute symptoms has gone
CONJUNCTIVITUS no exclusion
DIARRHOEA until 48 hours after symptoms have subsided
GERMAN MEASLES until 4 days after onset of rash
IMPETIGO until treatment finished and symptoms gone
INFLUENZA until recovered
MEASLES until 4 days after rash has disappeared
MENINGOCCAL DISEASE advice will be taken
MUMPS until 7 days after swelling subsides
RASHES until diagnosed by doctor
THRUSH until lesions have gone
WHOOPING COUGH 5 days after commencing antibiotics
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS LIST IS NOT COMPREHENSIVE. EXCLUSION PERIODS FOR ILLNESSES NOT LISTED WOULD BE DETERMINED AS NECESSARY.
